Introduction

OrphanCare Foundation is an organization established in 2008 with an objective to deinstitutionalise (DI) children living in the orphanages through reintegrating them back to their biological families or adoption. We work together with Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (JKM) to achieve success in Reintegration (RI) and Older Children Adoption (OCA) and adhering to the family-based care policy stipulated by the government.

Description

Our work requires social workers to be passionate in supporting the rights of children to grow up in a safe and loving environment, instead of an orphanage. We seek for individuals who have an appetite to overcome challenges with creativity and patience. The position reports directly to the Head of Department. Training will be conducted.

Requirements

  • Ability to build rapport and work with a diverse group of people from different socioeconomical backgrounds and age range.
  • Demonstrate respect, empathy, cultural sensitivity, patience, persistence, creativity, non-judgmental.
  • Good understanding in carrying out psychosocial assessments on children and adults.
  • Possess good listening, critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to write quality and concise reports.
  • Demonstrate resilience in traumatic situations and able to perform under pressure.
  • Be self-disciplined to work independently in case managements; and proactively as a team.
  • Good organizational and time-management skills to meet deadlines including admin work.
  • Experienced with public speaking and doing presentations.
  • Good communication skills in Malay and English (written and oral).
  • Must have own transport.

Responsibilities

  • Manage separated families by adhering to OrphanCare’s Reintegration (RI) process. This involves assessing, planning, coordinating and implementing care plans for clients.
  • Manage OCA through conducting interviews with prospective adoptive parents (PAPs), home inspections and PAPs training on their eligibility to adoption of older children.
  • Conduct visits to institutions/orphanages to raise awareness on DI.
  • Attend occasional court cases as and when needed.
  • Establish rapport and network with JKM, NGOs, and other stakeholders.
  • Manage own wellbeing through self-care to ensure responsibilities are carried out effectively.
  • Adhere to operational procedures following organizational policies; participating in quality reviews, reporting needed changes.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
  • Ensure client confidentiality and carry out duties ethically.
