With the support of Yayasan Sime Darby (YSD) and the Ministry of Finance (MOF), OrphanCare Foundation conducted its first Family-Based Care (FBC) community session at PPR Gombak Setia. The initiative marked a significant step in the organisation’s ongoing Deinstitutionalisation (DI) efforts, which aim to ensure that children grow up in safe, loving family environments rather than institutions.
The session was led by OrphanCare’s Reintegration Team and brought together residents of PPR Gombak Setia to explore the importance of family-based care and the role of the community in preventing child separation. Participants engaged in presentations, open discussions, and a Q&A session that addressed the challenges faced by vulnerable families and the shared responsibility of safeguarding children.
Community members actively participated, posing heartfelt questions and sharing reflections that highlighted their willingness to better understand how families can be supported before reaching a point of crisis. One participant noted, “We realise that awareness is the first step — the more we talk about it, the more we can change.”
The programme was made possible through the backing of YSD and MOF, whose support has been instrumental in strengthening OrphanCare’s advocacy for DI and family-based solutions. Their involvement enables the organisation to bring awareness initiatives directly to communities most in need, creating a foundation for long-term, sustainable impact.
The session at PPR Gombak Setia represents the beginning of a broader outreach effort. OrphanCare is planning to extend its FBC talks to additional communities across Malaysia, with the aim of building stronger awareness and encouraging collective responsibility.
Together with its partners, the foundation continues to advocate for a shift in mindset — one conversation at a time — to ensure every child has the opportunity to grow up in a family filled with love, care, and belonging.
