What We Do

Giving children back their lives

Giving children back their lives

Children living in institutions are deprived of the right to grow up in a family. Deinstitutionalisation (DI) is the way to restore that right.

There are an estimated 64,000 children in Malaysia living in institutions because they are poor, disabled, mentally challenged or for other medical and social reasons. Many newborns continue to be abandoned.

With support from the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development and its partners OrphanCare is implementing a process called ‘Deinstitutionalisation’ (DI) to help children be assimilated into families, get access to education, quality health care and the support and protection of their communities.
